Ivana Creates: Recipes from the Heart - Appreciation Challenge (2024)

~Recipe Holder~

Happy Tuesday, all :)

I am glad Monday is over - it was a funny day, with nothing going quite as planned. And with storm clouds and scary forecasts in our area, boy, I am sure glad that we got a lucky break and that it's all past us now.

Seeing as the weather was shaky, and I had an appreciation challenge project due, I decided to spend most of the free time I had yesterday creating this special little recipe holder, for a very, very dear friend of mine.

She is an uber talented paper crafter herself, and enjoys cooking, so I swapped the idea of a card with this little holder.

She has been a huge part of my life for the last few years, and is probably the reason I continue to blog today. Her constant encouragement and support are beyond anything I could have ever asked for in a friendship.

Thank you my dear friend :)

I am so happy to have found this little clear snap case, which I picked up at our local Staples.

It is a perfect substitute to a bulky recipe box. I wanted to make something small and compact, that could still hold plenty of beloved recipes, without needing a whole cupboard to be stored in.

I started with some pretty fabric and covered the back, bottom and portion of the front of this little holder. To decorate the front, I used the Half & Half dies and stamps from Papertrey Ink, stamped in a combination of Spring Moss and Ripe Avocado ink. Just over that, I added the recipe label, stamped with PTI's Recipe Box Label stamp, in Winter Wisteria and Ripe Avocado ink.

At the top of the holder, I added a felt border, cut using the Heart Border die out of Vintage Cream felt, a lacey border using the Filigree die, and a few liquid pearls here and there.

On the side, I added a stamped mason jar, from one of my new favorite stamp sets, from Farmhouse Paper Company. Have you heard of them? I tell you, if you love anything shabby chic and antique, their papers and stamps are just the thing for you. I fell absolutely in love with their Country Kitchen stamps, which I picked up last weekend at an adorable little scrapbook shoppe, as we were passing through a small city on our way back home. {Please scroll down to see the stamp set.}

I stamped a little heart inside the jar, using PTI's Love Lives Here stamp set.

I couldn't resist adding a few pretty buttons and some pom-pom trim, as my friend and I both share a love of notions. Just under that, I tucked another stamped image from the Country Kitchen stamp set. I added a bit of white paint around all the edges of the holder, and a dash of washi tape to either side of the recipe label.

Inside, I added a label and a doily square die-cut, along with the rest of the green pennant which was left over from the front.

I love how little I had to do to the inside, as the fabric and all other elements show through the semi-clear case :)

Tucked inside, are three stamped dividers, for my friend to personalize.

I stamped each one using stamps from Love Lives Here, in shades of Aqua Mist, Spring Moss and Winter Wisteria.

On the back of the recipe holder, I added another label, stamped with the same elements, and with a teensy fork and spoon die-cut from the beautiful Spellbinders set, Homespun.

Just a quick picture of my new favorite...The Farmhouse Paper Company stamp set.

Along with this pretty set, I picked up a few other little new favorites, like this glittered pastel paper pack...I have a card almost ready to show, with these lovely papers.

I found some pastel buttons, another paper pack with lovely, sunshine-y colors...

a few packs of chipboard accents...

and some pretty washi tape...

Here is the first card I created with these bits and pieces, and in the spirit of appreciation, I thought this would be a nice little addition to my shoppe.

The background of the card uses one of the super pretty polka dot patterns from the paper pad, as well as bits of washi tape, lots of stitches (both real and stamped with Precious Remembrance stamps), and a few die-cut and stamped layers.

I used the Half & Half stamp for both the sentiment and pretty red background, both of which were stamped using Pure Poppy ink.

I layered the two onto a die-cut of a Desktop File folder, with accents of stamped hearts, buttons and glittered chipboard wings.

To the side of the card, I added some stamped hexagons, cut using WPlus9's Quilt Cuts #1 die.

Thankfully, the weather is much more pleasant today, and I have a big day of errands ahead of me.

There are many more projects waiting on my desk, so I will be back as soon as the list of to-do's dwindles a bit, to share the rest.

xoxo
